Class Descriptions & Instructor Bios
Ballet
Description: Students will begin to develop a foundation of classical ballet technique. Classes will include barre work and center floor work including adagio, allegro and grand allegro. Students will also have the opportunity to learn combinations and collaborate with other students to create their own works. Instructor: Danielle Terrenova
Jazz
Description: Students enrolled in jazz will learn basic jazz technique. Classes include development of dance technique through warm up, center floor work and traveling combinations. Students will also have the opportunity to develop their own works in collaboration with other students in the class.

Danielle Terranova
Danielle has been involved in the performing arts for the past twenty five years. She has experience as a classical ballet dancer with many different companies. She also trained in modern, jazz and contemporary dance. Also, Danielle is a certified children’s yoga teacher. Currently Danielle is the Psych Intern at the International School at Rogers Magnet.
Contemporary Dance
Description: In this class, students will explore the fundamentals of dance that will allow them to create dynamic movement sequences. Students will transform language into movement. This course is designed for the beginner to the more advanced dancer. Each class will begin with a warm-up, followed by a practice movement. Students will then rehearse a dance piece created by the students and instructor to be performed at the end of the 8-week program. Instructor: Monica Lloyd.
Monica Lloyd
Monica began her dance training at the age of three. As a student at Spelman College she studied a variety of ethnic dances, modern dance and jazz. She has studied modern dance and ballet at the Mark Morris Dance School and the Richmond City Ballet. She continues to train at the Connecticut Ballet School and Dance Amsterdam in New York where she studied dance composition with Tere O’Connor. In recent years, she has worked with and performed dances created by Cleo Parker Robinson, Anna Sokolow, and Sasha Soreff. During the summer, she tours with a small modern dance company in New York. At the 2006 Stamford Arts Fest, she made her company debut with the piece “Kindred Spirit.” Miss Lloyd enjoys sharing her love of dance with her second grade class by incorporating it across the many disciplines she instructs.
Hip Hop
Description: Description: Using movements inspired by urban Hip Hop culture, the students will learn and create energetic dance combinations. The class consists of an aerobic Hip Hop warm up. Each week a different lesson will be used to help inspire the children to create a Hip Hop piece to be performed at the town meeting. Instructor: Kari Nealis Gomez
Kari Nealis Gomez has been committed to teaching dance to children of Southern Connecticut for the past 7 years. Commuting from New York City, she values her opportunities of dance education with the Connecticut Ballet Center, CBCs Dance Exposure Project, Darien Dance Center, and the International School at Rogers Magnet enrichment program. Kari received professional dance training at The Ailey School. She has also earned a BA in Liberal Arts with a psychology concentration at the New School University. While working with many different choreographers over the years, she has and continues to perform in the tri-state area.
Mime and Make Up
Description: Students will learn to act and dress the part of a mime clown, expressing their original stories without talking. Professional make-up techniques will be included, as well as this unique acting style. Instructor: Alison Flannery
Alison Flannery
Acting since childhood, Ms. Flannery has received a degree in Theater from UConn. As well as professionally acting on TV and stage, she has also produced, directed, and acted in her own movies, which have won awards worldwide.
Act Up
Description: Students will have the opportunity to explore the craft of acting, with classroom exercises, such as improvisations, creative thinking, and getting familiar with creating characters on stage. Instructors: Trina M. Britt and Taj Jordan

Description: Students will have the chance to sing, and act at the same time…we will creatively use music to present different topics. Instructors: Trina M. Britt and Taj Jordan
Trina M. Britt
Trina is a life long resident of Stamford Connecticut, and has been involved in theatre for over 20 years, and has now begun writing her own plays.
Trina began her theatrical pursuit, as a student at Rippowam High school, where she studied under Crystal Perry who founded the Perry Players, a resident theatre company at the Rich Forum. Trina has been a member of the Perry Players for over 20 years. She began with acting, directing, and show cased an original written short piece for “Salty Vision-A Directors Project” at the Rich Forum.
Her acting credits include: “A Raisin in the Sun”, “Black Girl”, “The Amen Corner”, “Wine in the Wilderness”, “Black Images Black Reflections”.
Her directorial credits are: “One monkey don’t stop no show”, “On Strivers Row”, “The Amen Corner”, “Seven Guitars”, and “Salty-Vision a Directors’ Project”. Trina has also worked with the Stamford Hospital to help promote “Women’s Heart Disease”, by writing skits for their event “Fashion From the Heart”.
Trina is grateful for the opportunity to work in the community, and thanks her family for their patience in the pursuit of her dreams.
Taj Jordan
Taj has been acting for 5years, and has been singing most of his life. You can catch Taj in many community projects in Ct and NY. Taj’s acting credits include: “Striver’s Row”, “The Nerd”, “Seven Guitars”, “Yesterday is Gone”, “All Eyes Watched For Freedom”, and most recently “Dream Girls”, presented by Curtain Call. Taj truly enjoys the theatre, and is a true talent, and loves to give back to the community.
Sing It, Play It, Strike It!
Description: This course will satisfy the musical interests of any young musician, whether he or she prefers to sing, play recorder, or play classroom percussion instruments. Students will learn a repertoire of songs through vocal, recorder, and percussive performance. Students will perform in ensembles or musical groups of varying sizes. They will learn the value of working hard towards a performance goal and being proud of their satisfaction of that goal. Your child may even become interested in an aspect of music that he or she has not gotten a proper chance to experience yet. Instructor: Gregory Herrmann
Young Mozarts: Composing with Percussion
Description: Believe it or not, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart began composing his own music at the age of 5! Keeping that in mind, there is no reason why our own young musicians can’t be composers themselves! This course is designed to give participants various opportunities to write their own music inspired by books, movies, and artwork. At the same time students will learn the fundamentals of music as well as how to use classroom percussion instruments to perform their own masterpieces! Instructor: Gregory Herrmann
Gregory Herrmann
Gregory has been immersed in music since a young age, particularly because his mother was a music and piano teacher. He began playing drums and percussion at the age of 9 and continued to hone his skills throughout middle and high school. He attended the University of Connecticut as a music education major and earned his degrees in 2003. He is in his fourth year of teaching music, having taught music for two years in New Haven and in his second year of teaching classroom music at Julia A. Stark and band at Hart Magnet. Gregory plays and performs on drums, marimba, guitar, and various other instruments. He is very fortunate to have music as such a large part of his life and his purpose as a music teacher is not only to teach his students how to perform and engage in music but also how to appreciate and find enjoyment in music.
Hollywood Stars (Film-making)
Description: Students will produce a film written and adapted by the students. They will learn skills in front of and behind the camera including acting, framing, sound effects, and set production. Instructor: Alison Flannery

Camera Capers (Photography)
Description: Students will capture an original stories on digital cameras, and will be instructed how to transfer them to computer programs, to make literary works of art. Lighting, framing, editing and composition will be included. Since every digital camera works differently, working with students' own digital cameras is a plus, but not necessary. Joan Flannery
Joan has been directing since childhood. From directing neighborhood plays on her street, Joan went on to direct school plays at the public elementary school where she teaches in Stamford, Connecticut. She earned herself a technology degree and took her directing skills to a new medium – film. She currently directs films at an after-school program with her students called “Hollywood Stars,” and she directs films with ChrisAl Productions, a production company put together by her daughter. To date, Joan has directed eight shorts and one feature-length film. Her films have won awards in the U.S. as well as abroad. Besides film, Joan loves riding horses and Yankees baseball.
Sculpture
This beginning sculpture class will expose students to a variety of materials and allow each student to explore and discover their creative niche. Instructor: Wesley Mattice
Wesley Mattice
Wesley graduated from Stamford High School and has completed and will receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Studio Art and Sculpture May 2007 from Southern Connecticut State University. He has and is working at the State Theater as a master projectionist and Asst. Manager and in addition is working at the New Canaan YMCA as Asst. Dive Coach for the Whirlwind Divers. This past summer he worked for the Stanwich Country Club as Asst. Dive Coach and continues to play the drum for the Mt. Kisco Pipe and Drum Band, which he has been doing since 1994.
Studio Art
Description: Children will enjoy exploring color, design and composition to create, as a team, painted murals interpreted from individual ideas. The murals will travel together and will be displayed in our city. Each participant will receive a photo of the mural they helped to create. Instructor: Anne Salthouse
Anne Salthouse
Anne graduated from Moore College of Art in Philadelphia and received a certificate from Kings College of Art in London. An acclaimed local artist for the past 30 years, Anne shares her talents by teaching for Adult Education, the Stamford Nature Center Summer Camp, the Yerwood Center, and Stamford’s Senior Center. She has works in collections all over the world and currently accepts commissions for portraits and murals.
Watercolor
Description: The students will learn basic watercolor techniques, design a painting, and mix paint to create a color in order to render a painting that will show their interpretation of the assigned material. Instructor: Donna Hughes
Donna Hughes
Donna has a BA in Art with a minor in education from the College of New Rochelle. Her certification is K- 12 in the State of CT. Donna has been teaching 5th grade for 19 years at Roxbury School in Stamford. She has taught some after school art classes in watercolor for grader 4 and 5. Donna presently renders her art in the form of watercolor which was taught by George Sutherland 7 years ago. She still takes classes with Mr. Sutherland once in awhile. Donna also creates pottery which became a new passion about 5 years ago.
Going Mobile
Description: Students will use PowerPoint to exhibit an original piece of work. It will include an introductory to PowerPoint using effects, transitions, and sound. Instructor: Joan Flannery
