SYF Elementary Football - Program Overview

SYF's Elementary Division is open to all 4th and 5th grade students who reside in Stamford, as well as non-Stamford residents that attend school in Stamford. There are no weight limits restricting participation, except that ball carriers weight cannot exceed 100 lbs, and linebackers or DBs cannot exceed 100 lbs. The elementary division consists of six teams. The boundaries for each team are set using the same ones as Stamford's Little League baseball program. The six teams are the Jets (Federal), Cowboys (Springdale), Giants (National-Lione), Raiders (North Stamford), Titans (Northrop), and Patriots (American). If you are new to Stamford, the attached map reflects each team's district. www.nlll.com/nlllmap.html

Roster sizes generally range from 22 to 28 players. Practices are held at facilities nearby to the host little league fields. Games are on Sunday at Rippowam between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The season will consist of 1 scrimmage and 5 regular season games beginning in mid-September, plus 1 to 3 playoff games.

Elementary and Mitey Mite Rules are attached. MM & Elem rules 2010.doc

The first day of conditioning practice for 2010 will be August 16, 5:30 at Scalzi Park. On that day, the coaches will inform their respective teams the practice schedule and location they will use for the remainder of the season

Most teams start practice between 5:00 and 6:00 PM. Practice is limited to 3 days per week, including a limit of 2 school nights per week (Mon-Th). After daylight savings time changes, most teams transition practice to Scalzi Park under the lights.

SYF Mitey Mite Football - Program Overview

SYF's Mitey Mite Division is open to all 2nd and 3rd grade students who live in Stamford, as well as non-Stamford residents that attend school in Stamford. The Mitey Mite Division is intended to be a fun and developmental experience, and scores are not kept during regular season games. There are no weight limits restricting participation, except that ball carriers cannot exceed 75 lbs, and linebackers and DBs cannot exceed 75 lbs. The number of teams in the Mitey Mite Division will depend on the number of players registered. From 2004-2008 the division consisted of four teams.

Beginning in 2009, the Mitey Mite teams were de-linked from the elementary teams, and this will continue in 2010. Rosters will be created by dividing the registered players randomly among the four teams.  A player returning to the Mitey Mite league for a second year may play on a different team than the previous year. Roster sizes generally range from 18 to 25 players. Practices for all Mitey Mite teams begin on August 16, 2010 at 5:30 at Scalzi Park.  Games will be played on Sunday at Rippowam's turf field between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.  The 2010 season consists of 6 regular season games. The 2010 schedule has not been set, but will be similar.  Teams will practice at various centrally located fields in town.  Registration WILL close on August 20, OR sooner if rosters are filled.

Giants defeat Cowboys 27-19 for 2006 Elementary Championship

The Giants defeated the Cowboys 27-19 on Saturday (Nov. 25) under the lights in an exciting finish to our 2006 elementary season.

The Cowboys jumped out to an early 13-0 lead behind the solid running of Austin Cagle and Jack Rakoczy. The Giants answered back with a late first half TD run by Michael Elliott to close the gap to 13-7 going into halftime.

The second half began with the Giant’s Elliott taking the opening kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown. Tim Farrell scored the extra point and the Giants took a 14-13 lead. However, the Cowboys answered right back with a long scoring drive capped by a Cagle TD run. The extra point conversion failed and the Cowboys led 19-14 lead. But then the Giants answered right back too. On their next possession Farrell ran 88 yards to put the Giants ahead for good 20-19.  Eric Stahl-Knight then scored later in the 4th quarter for the Giants to make the final score 27-19.

Other top performers in the game for the Giants were Budda Catchings, Dante Fargnoli, Haywood Alexander, Doug Petterson, En-Deja Whyte, Tom Thibault (fumble recovery), Jamar Robinson (INT) and Ryan Coppola.

The Cowboys got strong games from Jim Corcoran, Kenny Wright, Daniel Domiiniquez, James Gronberg and Matt Fusaro.
