| The game of Lacrosse |
 |
Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the United States. although until recently it has been slow in broadening its base of players in Stamford. It is a fast paced game that is a combination of basketball, hockey and soccer. Lacrosse is played with a stick, the crosse, and a ball that is a bit smaller than a baseball. Players scoop, catch and throw the ball into a small net at each end of the field. Anyone can play lacrosse - big or small. The game requires and rewards coordination, quickness and agility, not brawn. Long sprints up and down the field with abrupt starts and stops, precision passes, and dodges are routine. It is played on a field approximately the same size as a soccer filed, and there are 10 players on the field for men's lacrosse and 12 for women's lacrosse. Similar to hockey, there is checking in men's lacrosse, but not the women's game.
