Program Overview (Fall 2009)

SYF Field Hockey for middle school girls offers house and travel options for players.
It is led by Program Director, Mary Michalidid, 2 time All-America collegiate player and and international acclaimed coach and official.

Practices start September 12 - 2x/week on Monday and Thursday after school, and the season runs through mid November. Games are played on Saturdays and Sundays.  For schedules for house and travel, click to Schedules tab at the top of this website.

House program: 4 school based teams will be formed if the registration numbers allow. They are Cloonan, Rippowam, TOR/Trinity and Dolan/Scofield.  Games played on Saturday mornings. Middle School Championship Tournament is November 8.

Travel Team - Optional:  The travel team is strongly recommended for girls seeking a more competitive playing experience. It is also recommended for 7th and 8th grade girls of all levels. Games are Saturday and Sunday.

SYF's travel team is a member of the Fairfield County Field Hockey Association ("FCFHA") which is comprised of 25 teams from 11 towns. It competes against these teams and for 2009 has over 10 games and jamborees scheduled. For further information on the FCFHA see their website at www.fcfha.com

Registration Fee $140  ($60 additional for travel team)  Scholarship Rate - $30 (free or reduced lunch)

Indoor Middle School Field Hockey Clinic (Winter/Spring 2009)

SHOOT! SCORE! FLICK! INDOOR FIELD HOCKEY FOR ELEMENTARY THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS

For the third consecutive year SYF, under the leadership of Mary Michalidis, is offering Spring Indoor Field Hockey. Mary is the former SHS field hockey coach where she guided her team to a state championship. She is also a 2 time All-American collegiate player at University of North Carolina and an all-state player at Westhill.  

The 2009 indoor field hockey clinic on Wednesdays from March 18 to May 6 (except April 22).  This program, designed and run by Mary Michailidis, is open to all ability levels, and welcomes players aged 7 to 18.

Wednesday evenings, March 18- May 6
6:00 - 7:00 pm - beginners_skills drills (0-2 years experience; elem and middle school)
7:00 - 8:00 pm - intermediate_skills and open play (1-3 years experience)
7:30 - 9:00 pm - advanced_open play  (2+ years experience)
